PAINTING WORKSHOPS - ALL MEDIUMS

Paint morning, afternoon or both!  Using still-life set-ups, photographs or your imagination, enjoy working in our spacious sunlit studio.  Classes will consist of an hour morning lecture followed by a day of painting in your chosen medium.  We will take a lunch break at 12:30 while sharing exhibition opportunities and museum show information.  Individual critiques are given throughout the day; group critiques, twice a session.  Intermediate and advanced artists are welcome. Class size is limited to 15, so please register early.  Bring to the first class any supplies that you have.  Additional supplies will vary with the student and the medium and will be purchased on your own at your discretion.

BASICS OF PAINTING WITH OILS

Have you always wanted to pick up a paint brush? Join this class and learn, step by step, about painting materials, color theory and mixing, as well as how to choose an image and develop it as a painting. More experienced students are also welcome, as the instruction will strengthen understanding of materials and techniques. A materials list will be provided at the first class, or, upon request, from the instructor prior to the start of the semester.

BASIC DRAWING AND BEYOND

We will start with learning to draw simple forms accurately and progress to still life using pencil and charcoal, working our way up to color. We will draw our own faces, each other’s, and eventually, a model’s face for a full session pose. Both still life set ups and a costumed model will be available for the later sessions. All levels of ability are welcome and more experienced students may work independently. Bring to the first class an 18” x 24” drawing pad (white paper), a 2B and a 6B charcoal pencil, a 4B graphite pencil, a kneaded eraser, a white polymer eraser, a small or medium sized box of pastels. Please also bring $5.50 for your personal desktop easel.

DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY WITH PHOTOSHOP CS3

Learn how to get the most from your digital pictures. This hands-on course will teach you to work with both traditional photographs and digital files using Adobe Photoshop CS3. Photoshop will be used as a digital darkroom. Image adjustment and manipulation will be an integral part of this course. You will learn to use the power of Photoshop to achieve quality images in black and white or color. Retouching, selective color, compositing photographs, and the tools will be emphasized in this course.

DIGITAL ILLUSTRATION

Turn a simple line drawing into a colorful illustration, logo, or 2-D image. Transform your drawings and photos into posters or pieces of fine art. This hands-on course will allow students to explore their artistic potential on the computer. We will focus on the technical skills necessary to create professional looking illustrations using Adobe Illustrator CS3.

WOODWORKING AND CABINETMAKING

Novice or experienced woodworker – this class is for you! Acquire the essentials of woodworking from a master craftsman and teacher.  Learn the use of machinery and tools (hand, stationary and hand-powered), as well as the theory of construction, which includes the proper use of joinery and the understanding of woodworking materials and their uses.  We provide the machinery, you provide lumber and software.  If you do not own tools, expect to spend about $100.  Please come with an idea for a project.

JEWELRY

Design and make your own jewelry, forming with sheet metal, wire and stone setting. This course is for both beginners and those who have had experience in jewelry-making or metalsmithing.  Beginners can work in non-precious metals advancing to silver or gold. Basic equipment is supplied by the school and non-precious metals will be available from the instructor. If working in precious metals, expect to spend approximately $30.  Materials can be purchased from Mr. Citrenbaum.

BEAD STRINGING

 How many necklaces of beads just sit in your jewelry box?  Are they out of style, too long, too short, or broken and need repair?  Sort through your stash and bring these recycles to class.  You can make them into beautiful new pieces.  Donna and Eve use high tech wires and easy to learn techniques to create wonderful new looks.  Expect to spend approximately $50 on materials, depending on how many pieces you make.

CALLING ALL KNIT-WITS: BEGINNERS TO DESIGNERS

 This course is for everyone who likes to knit, whether novice or experienced, male or female.  Beginners will learn basic stitches and pattern reading.  Advanced students will learn new stitches and techniques and will be guided to design their own personal projects.  Blocking and finishing techniques will be covered.  Students will supply their own materials and can knit whatever they would like.  Some suggested project ideas: a scarf, mittens, hat, socks, baby items, afghan blanket and sweater.  Please bring to the first class a skein of yarn and size 7 or 8 needles.

CROCHET FROM A PATTERN

This is a class for the continuing beginner and intermediate crocheter. Every participant will learn to read from a pattern and create a finished product by the course’s completion. You will learn various intermediate and advanced stitches. Plan to spend approximately $12 on supplies, depending upon how many projects are made. Please bring to the first class hooks (sizes G to J) and yarn (sport or worsted) that you are most comfortable using.
