 NIGHTTIME

THE FUR-LINED CEILING SPLITS INTO PIECES,

THE SWISH OF WINGS RESOUNDS THROUGHOUT THE CAVE

REVERBERATING TONES THAT TORMENT US

WITH THE THUNDEROUS TREMORS OF THEIR FLIGHT,

WHEN LEGIONS OF BATS FLEE INTO TWILIGHT.

THE LAST VESTIGE OF THE DAY VANISHES

SMOTHERED UNDERNEATH THE BLACKENED BLUE SKY,

SUDDENLY CLOAKED IN THIS NEW CHOKING CLOUD.

THEN UNHEARD SOUNDS ARE SPEWED, SEEKING ECHOES

TO DIRECT THEIR NIGHT’S SEARCH FOR SUSTENANCE.

THE MASS  DISPERSES INTO SEPARATE  SPHERES

EACH SENDING SONAR SIGNALS WHICH LAND

UPON RECEPTACLES THAT ARE READILY DEVOURED.

NATURE’S SEEDS ARE SPREAD DURING NOCTURNAL TRIPS

AS SPECKS OF POLLEN SPRINKLE ONTO FLORA FIELDS.

THE COLONY SEEMS TO COLLECT ITSELF EN MASSE

WHEN THE SKY BEGINS TO GLISTEN WITH SLIVERS OF LIGHT,

THEN THE SILENCE OF THE NIGHT IS SHATTERED AGAIN

BY FRENZIED FUR, BEATING TO THE RHYTHM OF RETURN

HURLING INTO THEIR CAVERN OF CUSHIONED VELVET.

"Storytelling reveals meaning without committing the error of defining it."

Hannah Arendt
