The
Story of CTAS
The
mission of the Cheltenham Township Adult School is to provide educational,
cultural, vocational and recreational opportunities for adults in Cheltenham
Township and neighboring communities.
The
School was founded in the fall of 1939 by a forward-looking group of men and
women who pioneered education for adults living in and near Cheltenham Township.
More than sixty years later, their experiment has become an established
educational tradition. It has grown from the first semester, when 27 courses
were offered, to the present, with over 150 courses and trips listed in this
catalog.
From
that first October opening night, the community has welcomed adult education
with enthusiasm. Volunteer Board members, assisted by a dedicated office staff,
continue to plan, advise and administer the School. Each member of the Board
brings unique interests and expertise to the mix. We believe that our success
lies in the diversity of our commitment.
For
nearly fifty years, the Five Star Forum has showcased well-known personalities
in its successful series of lectures and programs. Outstanding speakers from
the arts, sciences, education, politics and entertainment offer
thought-provoking presentations at an affordable subscription price.
REAP, sponsoring continuing learning for retired executives and professionals,
was established through
CTAS
and currently operates independently.
