GARDEN DESIGN WORKSHOP
Do you admire the design of a beautiful garden? You will be guided through the technical
and aesthetic processes of site location, soil preparation and plant selection. You will learn
the answers to many general gardening questions. You will use digital photos and measurements of your garden problem areas to produce a simple design plan. Expect to spend up to $10 on drawing supplies.

FOOL-PROOF, NO-GOOF PERENNIALS FOR SHADE
This class will cover the top minimal care perennials that will grow in your yard, in almost any
soil, as long as they get under five hours of sun per day. Using slides, cut specimens, and
nursery stock in pots, we'll discover the hidden beauty of shade perennials and discuss ways
of incorporating them into your existing garden. Come for a lively and interactive session that
will help you to learn to successfully grow some of the hardiest perennials in Pennsylvania.

BACKYARD CHICKENS 101

Who says you can't raise chickens in your own backyard? In many suburban townships,
including Cheltenham and others nearby, it's legal and fun. Whether your interest is in
locally grown, organic eggs or poultry or sharing an experience with your children, a
small flock of chickens may be just what you're looking for. Learn about the benefits of backyard chickens, buying and caring for day-old chicks, building a coop, managing hens, collecting eggs (and the truth about roosters!) from a keeper of hens and chicks in her own backyard.

HERB GARDEN: PLAN, PLANT AND USE

You don't have to have a formal herb garden to enjoy your own herbs. They are easy to grow
in any garden if you can meet their growing requirements. Some you can start from seed, others from cuttings. This class will provide how-to information on harvesting, drying, and the
many ways to use herbs. Demonstrations include starting parsley seeds, making cuttings, and
creating herbal infused oils.

FLORAL DESIGN I

If you enjoy flowers and want to learn the art of floral arranging for fun, this is the class for you. You will learn important basic skills and take your arrangements home. We cover everything from bow-making, vase arrangements, corsage and boutonnieres, wreath construction and much more. There will be a maximum weekly charge of $10 per student for the cost of flowers and materials. Please bring a pair of floral shears to class. Relax and take time to smell the flowers.

FLORAL DESIGN II

Fun with flowers continued. This class is for those who already make arrangements of fresh flowers from gardens or purchased from stores. You will explore the next level of your creativity with unusual styles and new and unconventional techniques, creating topiaries and styled and exotic arrangements. You will have the opportunity to bring from home your favorite containers and vases that you have always wanted to use. All you will need are your own shears and $10 per week for fresh flowers. Prerequisite: Floral Design I or equivalent.

SPRING PERENNIALS

Open the gardening season with some new ideas for plants that bloom throughout the spring.
We'll discuss different varieties of early-blooming perennials, the sites they prefer, how to plant them for best effect and sources for finding them in the local area. We'll also learn how to cut back winter-killed foliage so that your existing perennials will be ready to thrive another season. You will receive plant lists and other handouts.

THE H.I.P. CLASS - HOME IMPROVEMENT PROJECT CLASS
This is a hands-on class for women and men who want to learn the basics of home repair and maintenance. We will review electrical, plumbing, painting, and tool basics as well as weatherization and installation of wall hangings. These lectures and practice sessions give you the knowledge and confidence to tackle your home’s maintenance whiles saving you money. You will learn simple cost effective ideas for a beautiful and functional home. Please bring $8 for materials to the first class and any hand tools that you own.
