Two poems

   Summer Shower

The golden rays of the morning sun splinter through the window

Like shards of hot glass they fall to our bed and mingle with the tousled
          sheets

I grasp for the dream that was just there, but find only remains of its
          departure.

In the shower, I stand frozen while heat and steam surrounds me.

As I gather my things she tries to smile, but the tears start to fall,

Like rain falling in a river they disappear upon hitting the floor

Outside we say our last good byes.

We embrace; her skin smells of summer, her hair smooth as silk

The seconds move as hours, for two I want to stay, by three I know I
          won
t

The gentle kiss is broken and I slip away, down the steps and to the top of  the hill

The grass has grown high now and Im waist deep in green,

I turn one last time, she motions her head and I do the same

In a distant place inside me I hear a door slam

Feelings and emotions in a tangle of the past

The pain it comes from leaving and leaving comes from pain

So over the hill to the train tracks I follow, to the next town, the next hill,

          the next summer shower.
