Claudia Beechman
One
poem
Laps
for my mother
Pushing herself right through it,
The lavender dome of her head rising and falling,
Arms sweeping the water.
Then on her back,
Eyes skyward
Her rhythm not stopping,
Even breathing even
Keeping time with clouds shifting,
Making small, silent waves only she can hear,
In the clear, cool rush receiving her.
