A MANHATTAN DAY WITH BOOKS

Often referred to as the “Main Branch,” the magnificent Beaux-Arts landmark building on Fifth
Avenue and 42nd Street that houses the New York Public Library is not a branch of the library
at all. Rather, it houses the research library's rich and diverse collections that have evolved
into one of the world's preeminent public resources for the study of human thought, action,
and experience. After a docent-led tour, we will have lunch at Trattoria Alba, a nearby restaurant. In the afternoon, we will visit the Morgan Library and Museum which began as the private library of financier Pierpont Morgan. Guides will take us through the building and the current exhibit of more than 100 splendid illuminated miniatures including pages from one of the world's most important extant Dutch manuscripts, The Hours of Catherine of Cleaves. Please wear comfortable shoes since many of the floors are marble. Cost includes transportation, docents, lunch, snacks and gratuities.
